CONTEX

The goal of the app

Matching app that focuses mostly on finding the right company for the event.

Imagine if you want to go to the concert of your favourite performer, but your friends do not really like them. What do you do, go alone or stay home and watch it online? My app solves this problem as it gives you a chance to meet with people with the same interests.

The problem it solves: loneliness.

MY ROLE

What I did

- Solo project, combining UX design and Product Owner responsibilities; In future, planning to cooperate with co-founders;
- Interviewed 5 people to validate interest in the concept and understand event-discovery habits;
- Designed the information architecture behind the app — events, venues, interests, and attendance;
- Designed the core discovery flow in Figma;
- Created first MVP, so users can download the app and test it;

The features, value, and goals

The app answers a simple question: “I don’t want to go to this event alone — I’d like to find some company.” Why go alone when there are people who’d love to join you?

This resonated strongly with expats who’ve moved to the Netherlands and don’t yet have friends or family nearby — Festyo helps them find people to share an event with, and enjoy it in good company. Of course, the app is just one way to connect — people often keep talking long after the event itself is over.

PROCESS

Designing the app

01

Customer journey

The customer journey borrows its structure from social matching apps, but uses the event itself as the starting point instead of a profile. A user selects an event, sees the list of people planning to attend, and sends a connection request to open a chat with them.

02

Interest-Based Matching (concept)

Users can tag their interests with hashtags — for example, #museum, #concert, #festival. Events surface first in the feed if they match a user’s tags, so the app prioritizes relevance over a flat chronological list. The same tags are planned to work as filters, letting users narrow down the feed manually as well.
